Reasoning With Connections in Middle School Mathematics
About the Event
Join Cal Poly Pomona professor Dr. Greisy Winicki-Landman and the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) math team as we explore pedagogical approaches to get students engaged in mathematical discourse and deeper mathematical reasoning in this two-part series. During the engaging and interactive sessions, participants will explore the importance of implementing tasks and activities that promote discourse and help students understand mathematics conceptually. Educators will enhance their ability to foster a comprehensive understanding of mathematics among their students through a combination of hands-on activities, collaborative discussions, and reflective exercises. Teachers will leave with a deeper understanding of the mathematics they teach as well as a more robust perspective of its structure and will be able to create relevant and meaningful tasks that will have their students thinking like mathematicians.
