AVID Center COP: AVID Elective Level 1- Implementing the Fundamentals of Instruction (Two-day Training)

About the Event

This two-day Community of Practice is designed for middle and high school educators serving as new AVID Elective teachers at new or existing contracted secondary sites. It is also intended for AVID Site Coordinators who are new to teaching the AVID Elective; coordinators in this role should complete Elective Level 1 prior to attending Site Coordinator Level 1. This offering is reserved for first-time participants or educators who have not completed AVID Elective Level 1 (or its equivalent) within the past five years, ensuring alignment with current curriculum resources, instructional expectations, and updated AVID methodologies. Grounded in a Foundational Learning Journey, participants will engage deeply with the AVID Weeks at a Glance curriculum, including tutorial implementation, and develop fluency in research-based Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR®) strategies. Emphasis is placed on establishing strong instructional routines, cultivating student agency, and building coherent systems that promote rigor and college- and career-readiness. Through collaborative planning, reflection, and application, educators will leave with a clear implementation roadmap and the confidence to deliver the AVID Elective with fidelity and purpose. Cost: Free Value: $675 This training is offered at no cost by the Riverside County Office of Education for public school educators in Riverside County with AVID Riverside County contract agreements. Eligibility: This opportunity is available at no cost for first-time participants from AVID Riverside County partner schools.
