    About the Event

    Aligning Dance and Movement with Literacy Strategies FOR K-8 STUDENTS PARTICIPANTS WILL: • Understand how dance and movement in the classroom can support social emotional well-being and English language development. • Develop an understanding of the elements of dance (focus on Space, Energy, and Time). • Experience dance and movement in accessible ways (solo work) with ways to modify for different abilities. • Develop a dance using choreographic structures with adjectives/adverbs (partner work). • Understand how to do a “close reading” of a dance. • Practice how to tell a story through dance with a beginning, middle and end (group work). PRESENTER: Peggy Burt is an arts education consultant, mindfulness facilitator, dance educator, yoga teacher and coach/mentor. As a longtime member of the arts education community in California, she brings a wealth of experience to professional development, curriculum development and strategic planning with counties and districts statewide. Her affiliations include the Los Angeles County Office of Education TEAL/TELA, the Los Angeles County Department of Arts & Culture, and the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association. Peggy enjoyed a long and rewarding career in dance and holds a BFA in Dance from the University of Utah and a master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Michigan. LOCATION: UCR Arts/Hammond Dance Studio 3834 Main Street Riverside, CA 92501 COST: $125 per person. AUDIENCE: Teachers from K-8th grade.
